Everything you need to know.

How the Global Layoff Index sources, verifies, and updates data on workforce reductions worldwide.

About the data

What does this site track?+
Every announced workforce reduction globally — cuts captured from government filings (WARN notices, labour ministry disclosures), corporate filings (SEC 8-Ks, LSE RNS, SEBI filings), and verified news reporting. The dataset spans 2,400+ companies and 2.85 million tracked layoffs since 2023, updated every 15 minutes.
How is this different from other layoff trackers?+
Every event is verified against multiple independent sources and tagged with a clear verification tier (Primary / Corporate / Secondary). Coverage is global — not just US tech — and includes banking, retail, media, manufacturing, healthcare, and more.
Where does the data come from?+
Three pillars: mandatory government filings (US WARN, UK HR1, India IDA), corporate disclosures (SEC 8-Ks, LSE RNS, SEBI filings), and verified news reporting from 40+ trusted outlets, cross-checked. Full breakdown on the methodology page.
How often is the data updated?+
New events are captured and verified within minutes to hours of public disclosure. Aggregates and rankings refresh every 15 minutes. A "last verified" timestamp appears on every page.
Why don't I see a specific company or event?+
Three possible reasons: (1) we haven't picked it up yet; (2) we picked it up but can't yet verify it against a second independent source; (3) it falls below the current threshold (rounds of 50+ in the US/EU, 25+ elsewhere). Send what you have to contact@gosivl.com.
How are revised numbers handled?+
A figure announced today may be revised in next quarter's 10-Q. The public record is updated and the revision dated. The prior figure remains on file. Nothing is silently edited.

Using the data

Can I cite this data in my article or research?+
Yes. Stats and visualisations can be cited with attribution — credit The Global Layoff Index and link to the page you're citing. For source-level access (needed for investigative journalism or peer-reviewed research), email contact@gosivl.com.
Can I embed charts on my site?+
Yes. Every chart has an embed button. The free tier covers non-commercial use with attribution. Commercial embeds and white-labelled dashboards are available — see the embed page.
Is there an API?+
Yes. Free tier: 1,000 requests/month. Paid tiers for higher volume and historical access.
Can I download the raw dataset?+
Not currently. Aggregate data and per-event records are available via the API and embeddable widgets. Bulk export is on the roadmap for partner tiers.

For affected employees

I was just laid off. Can you help?+
Yes. Add your profile to the private candidate register. Vetted recruiter partners at companies actively hiring in your function and location can reach you directly. Your profile is never published publicly on the site.
Is my profile visible to anyone?+
No. The register is private. Only vetted recruiter partners with active hiring mandates can see profiles, and only profiles matching their open roles. You control whether your profile is active, paused, or deleted at any time.
Does it cost anything to join the register?+
No. The register is free for candidates. Revenue comes from the recruiter partners on the hiring side.
How are recruiter partners vetted?+
Each partner firm is reviewed before joining — hiring history, the companies they represent, references from past placements. Firms without active open roles or whose practices don't meet our standards are turned down.

Corrections and accuracy

I think a number on a page is wrong. What do I do?+
Email contact@gosivl.com with the page URL and what you believe should be changed. Attach a filing, press release, or verified news report where possible. We reply within 48 hours.
A company is asking you to remove an event. Will you?+
No. Verified events aren't removed at the request of the company involved, their PR firm, or any third party. If the underlying number is genuinely wrong and the evidence supports it, the record is updated and the revision dated.
Who funds this?+
Not the companies tracked. No advertising on public pages. Revenue comes from newsroom embed licences, API tiers, and the recruiter partnership programme that underwrites the candidate register.
