Your data, handled plainly.

The Global Layoff Index publishes data about workforce reductions. Personal data is collected in four contexts: visitors, newsletter subscribers, candidate register members, and commercial customers. Data is never sold. No advertising on public pages. No cross-site tracking.

What's collected

Visitors to public pages. Page views, referrer, browser, device, approximate country. A single first-party cookie counts returning visitors. No third-party advertising cookies.

Newsletter subscribers. Email address and engagement metadata (opens, clicks, unsubscribes).

Candidate register members. Name, email, optional phone. Current or most recent employer, role, function, seniority. Location, work-authorisation region, languages. Skills, optional salary expectations, optional notice period. A short self-written bio. Optional CV file.

Commercial customers (recruiters, embed/API). Business name, contact name, work email, role. Hiring criteria and geographies. Billing details where applicable.

Who it's shared with

Candidate register — read this carefully. Profiles in the register are shared with vetted recruiter partners actively hiring in your function and geography. Specifically:

  • Your profile is only shown to recruiters whose open mandates match your function, seniority, and location.
  • Recruiters can save your profile and contact you via the platform.
  • Each recruiter partner is bound by an agreement that prohibits sharing your profile with any party other than the named hiring client.

You can pause, edit, or delete your profile at any time from your account dashboard.

Everyone else. Standard service providers for hosting, email delivery, analytics, and (for commercial customers) payment processing. No data is shared with any third party other than these processors and the recruiter partners.

How long data is kept

  • Visitor logs: IP for 24 hours, aggregate analytics for 13 months.
  • Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe, then deleted within 30 days.
  • Candidate register: active while your account is active; auto-paused after 12 months of inactivity; auto-deleted after 24 months unless you log in.
  • Commercial customers: for the duration of the contract plus a period required by accounting law.
  • Corrections and editorial correspondence: for the lifetime of the relevant event records, as part of the audit trail.

Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:

  • Access a copy of the personal data held about you.
  • Correct anything that's wrong.
  • Request deletion (subject to legal retention obligations).
  • Receive your data in a portable format.
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interest.
  • Withdraw consent for any processing that relies on consent.

Cookies

A single first-party analytics cookie counts returning visitors. No third-party advertising cookies. No cross-site trackers. Blocking cookies in your browser does not affect site functionality.

Children

The site is not directed at anyone under 16. Data is not knowingly collected from minors.

Changes

This policy may be updated. Material changes will be flagged on the homepage for 30 days. The date at the top of this page reflects the current version.
